Roermond based wood working wizard Pim Schoren has been building quite a few wooden bikes already. enserinkdesign.com is honored to design one of the new frames for his emerging brand PiM.BiKE
The design goal was to take one step further in styling and streamlining the wooden frame within the build method Pim has developed over the years. A plywood core is sandwiched between strong and decorative hard wood. By routing chambers in the core layers, weight saving cavities are created. Brake and gear wires are routed through the frame to add to the slick look. Components like the head and crank bearing sets and the seat post are mounted in custom made aluminum inserts. The rear wheel is mounted in CNC cut aluminum stay plates.
Vacuum is used to ensure a 100% perfect bonding of the CNC cut layers during the glue cycle.
While these frames may not compete in the upper echelons of the gram hunting race, PiM bikes can be built well under 10kg while providing a remarkably smooth and stable ride. PiM bikes are built to size individually, from a choice of wood types.
